ANNOUNCEMENTS

*****************************************************

Here is some skinny on the upcoming Armed Forces Day Parade:  there are over 160 entries, of which Chapter B is the best.  The parade will start at 10:00 AM but we will need to line up at 8:30 AM since we are in position B-33.  We will access the parade line-up via Fourth Street.  The Parade Marshals will let us know where we are to stage, remember Unit B-33.  There are some rules that we will need to follow.  The first is, judging will occur not only along the parade route but in the staging area as well so we need to look and act professional at all times (us act professional?????, can it happen????).  Because of safety concerns we can not distribute candy or other materials along the route.  Again, I am looking for some Bit-O-Honey’s to give (bribe) to the judges so if you have some please let me know.  I am told that spacing between units will be strictly enforced at 50 feet.  If we are told by a parade official to close the gap or widen the gap we must do as directed.  If we fail to do so we can be asked to leave the parade route and/or be disqualified.  NO alcoholic beverages allowed.  And finally, make sure you have proof of insurance on your bike or in your vehicle.  If asked to show same and you can not produce it you will not be allowed to ride in the parade.  Oh, one other important item: we are asked to respect private property, especially in the staging areas.  Please do so.  See you all at 8:30 AM on 17 May on Fourth Street in Bremerton.  Come join us for the fun and recognition.

Some of the Chapter Members just went through GWRRA’s Advanced Riders Course (ARC).  This course occurred over two different days.  Friday evening we spent in the classroom and Saturday afternoon we spent on the range, in Belfair and Bremerton respectively.  We were joined by Chapter O on Friday evening and preceded by Chapter O on the range Saturday.  The weather really cooperated for us and helped us out since it was neither too hot or too cold.  Worked great.  Our ARC instructors were Eric Carlson and Mike Briggs.  What a pair to draw two.  The classroom session went quickly since it was informative, well structured, and not real formal.  The range time went extremely well since no one dropped their bikes even in the sloooooooow motion portions.  I wished we could say the same for one of the instructors in the morning session.  He did leave a couple of pieces of Tupperware on the range.  The range portion consisted of 9 different events of which included braking and swearving to mention just a couple.  Our portion lasted about 4 hours and the whole time went by real quick.  The fun was had by Jim Swart, Ken Smith, Bob Minor, Ted Moore, Jim Jacobsen, Mike White, and myself.  Hope I did not miss anyone since I was so worried about the slow moving portions that I zoned in on that.  Starting out was a little rough but as time went by we all developed our skills a little more.  It is hard trying to do some of these events after not riding for several months but I guess that is what all the training is about:  regaining and refining our skills.  Needless to say, we all did just that while having a lot of fun.  If you haven’t taken one of these courses, you must sign up for one whence they come around again as they are really informative, helpful, and a whole lot of fun.
